Ashmore Palms' Environmental Policy
The Management and Staff of Ashmore Palms Holiday Village are proactively committed to sustaining and reducing the impact on the natural environment. Some of our environmental goals are as follows:
- To adopt energy, resource and water saving techniques, without lessening the comfort, safety and enjoyment of guests, tenants and staff.
- To choose natural products where possible.
- To educate guests and staff on environmentally friendly practices related to the sustainable management of the Village and its natural surroundings.
- To maintain and enhance the services and experience provided to guests and tenants whilst upholding sound environmental practices to reduce impact on the environment.
- To provide a clean, safe and relaxed environment for guests, tenants and staff.
- To provide sufficient trees to attract and encourage the breeding of native birds and wildlife.
- To recycle glass, alluminium, paper, cardboard, plastic, building materials and other resources, where possible.
- To utilise bore water to irrigate the grounds of the Village and reduce wastage of town water.
Water Conservation
The Gold Coast has experienced drought conditions for several years. Although the coastline often receives adequate rainfall, a lesser amount usually reaches the Hinze Dam - which is currently the Gold Coast's only fresh water supply.
During 2007, Ashmore Palms underwent a WEMP assessment to determine its water usage efficiency. Rigorous criteria was set by the Queensland Water Commission for WEMP assessment, which included:
- To reduce water flow to 9 litres per minute from taps and shower heads
- To installed dual flush toilets in cabins and decommission use of urinals
- To reduce water usage in guest outdoor areas, pool, playground etc
- To conduct weekly water meter readings
- To inform guests on check-in of the current level water restriction
- To adopt garden water saving measures, regular mulching in all garden areas
It is estimated that, by complying with the above criteria, Ashmore Palms is effectively reducing its water usage by 25%.
